Applicant portal

Apply, upload, pay and check status without staff help

Residents, contractors and business owners get one signed-in place to apply, upload plans, pay fees, request inspections, message staff and track status at any hour. Public search works without an account.

Create an account and start an application

Portal accounts are separate from staff sign-in and never grant staff access. An applicant sees only records linked to their account or a secure link they hold.

  1. Register and verify email

Enter email, name, phone and whether the account is for an individual or a company. Email must be verified before an application can be submitted.

  2. Choose a type

Search permit types by plain description, read required documents and fees, and start a draft. The chosen type cannot be changed after submission without a staff correction logged on the record.

  3. Complete the steps and submit

Complete project, parcel, contacts, details and certification steps in order. Drafts autosave and can be resumed. An application cannot submit until required fields, required contacts and required documents are present.

Upload plans, see fees, pay and get a receipt

Upload each plan and document with a description, see each fee line and the total before you pay, and keep the receipt on the record.

Upload documents

Open the record, choose the document type, upload, add a description and confirm. A revised file keeps the earlier version on the record. Reviewers see the change history, not a new application.

See fees before payment

Fees calculate from the schedule in effect on the submission date. See each fee line, calculation basis and total for the record. Staff adjust a fee only with a logged reason.

Pay online or at the counter

Pay by card through the town payment processor and receive a receipt number on screen and by email. Staff record counter cash or check against the same invoice. Card numbers are handled only by the processor. PermitDesk stores the processor reference and receipt only.

Request an inspection

Request an inspection for an eligible permit after creating a portal account. Pick the inspection type, date and site contact, and read the result and any follow-up on the record.

Track status, messages and inspections

Portal home shows drafts to finish, records in progress, fees due, upcoming inspections and unread messages. My records filters by status and opens one record to see its timeline, documents, fees, inspections and next step.

  • Every record shows one clear next step in plain words, with a link to the exact form, upload or payment.
  • Every status change writes a history entry and tells the applicant what to do next.
  • Message the town on the record and read replies in the same thread. Notices state the record number, what changed and the exact action to take.
  • Update contact details, notification choices, company users and contractor licenses in My account.

Each tile opens a filtered list. Needs attention items sort above in-progress items and show the exact action and due date.

Public search and secure links without an account

Browse application types, required documents and fee information without sign-in. Search public records by record number, address, parcel or name and read status and next step.

  • Only portal-visible statuses and fields appear in public search. Internal notes, phone, email and payment details never appear.
  • A secure link opens only the one record it was issued for, expires after a town-set period, can be revoked, and every use is logged.
  • Look up a contractor or business license number, status and expiry without sign-in.
  • File a code complaint, including an anonymous complaint, and check status by case number. Anonymous complaints store no personal detail.
