Request an inspection

Follow numbered steps to request an inspection for an eligible permit, pick a date and contact, and read the result. An inspection can be scheduled only where the permit type and status allow it.

Before you start

Check eligibility first, prerequisites must be passed before some inspections can be requested.

  • An issued permit or a record in a status that allows inspection, the record shows which inspections are available
  • A site contact who will be at the site, with a phone number the inspector can use on the day
  • Access notes such as gate code, parking or who to ask for on site
  • Any work that must be ready before the visit, check the record for prerequisites and conditions

Steps

Request from the permit record, so the inspector sees the same parcel, history and approved plans.

  1. 1. Open the permit

Sign in, open the permit from your records, and go to the inspections section. Inspections that cannot be requested yet show the reason, such as a prerequisite that has not passed.

  2. 2. Choose the inspection type

Pick the inspection type for this stage of the work from the types the permit allows. Choose only the type you are ready for.

  3. 3. Pick a date

Pick a preferred date and time window from the choices shown. Where the town enables it, self scheduling for that type appears here.

  4. 4. Add access notes

Add the site contact, phone number and access notes. Add comments such as gate code or where to park, staff and the inspector read these on the visit.

  5. 5. Submit

Submit the request and keep the confirmation. Staff confirm a date and window, assign an inspector, and notify you when it is scheduled.

What happens next

The result lands on the same record, with no need to call the office.

Confirmation and scheduled time

You see the scheduled date, time window and inspector where the screen shows them, and receive a notice for the scheduled visit.

Result

The inspector records pass, fail or not applicable per checklist item, with photos and comments where required. The result appears on the permit.

Follow up

A failed item needs a comment and, where the checklist requires it, a photo. The record tells you what to fix and when to request a reinspection.

If the date does not work

Reschedule from the record while the inspection is still in a status that allows it.

Open the inspection on the permit and choose the reschedule or cancel option where it appears. Cancelling needs a reason, and the notice tells you how to request a new time. If the inspection has already been completed, contact the town office, staff can schedule a reinspection for the failed items. If you cannot be at the site, contact the office as soon as you can so the inspector can be reassigned.
