Who builds PermitDesk and how support works

This page states who builds and hosts PermitDesk, what the town owns, and how training and support are provided, without invented claims.

Builder and hosting

Who builds and hosts PermitDesk

PermitDesk is built by Majic Holdings, a sister company of Green Communications Contracting LLC. Green Communications Contracting LLC is based in O'Fallon, Missouri, and hosts the product in the United States.

PermitDesk is a community development suite for permits, plan review, inspections, licensing, code cases, planning and zoning, fees and a public portal. It is built and run by the same team that implements it for a town, so the people who build the product are the people who configure it and support it.

  • Hosted in the United States, with separate production, test and training areas.
  • Built for cities and towns, scoped from the Brooklyn Park and Moultonborough proposals.
  • New product position is stated plainly. The proposals state that PermitDesk has no live municipal clients yet and that Brooklyn Park or Moultonborough would be among its first towns.
  • No subcontractors are named in the proposals for implementation. Hosting is in the builder's own data centre, maps use the town GIS, and card payments run through the town payment processor.
Data ownership

What the town owns and how export works

The town owns every record. PermitDesk holds it as a contractor to run the service, and the town can take its data out at any time.

  1. Open the export centre

Staff with export permission open Reports or the export centre and choose the records, fees, payments, contacts, parcels or documents to export.

  2. Download spreadsheets and documents

Records download as spreadsheets and documents as files. The export states the filters, date and row count, and a data dictionary explains each field.

  3. Check the counts

Match the row count in the file to the export history entry. If the file was truncated, the limit and filters are written in the file.

  4. Keep the export with town records

Store the final export and the data dictionary with the town records. At the end of the contract, request a full export, check it, then confirm deletion in writing.

See the security page for retention, audit logging and deletion confirmation, and the guide to search a public record for what the public can see.

Training and support

Training and support by role

Training is by role, with the town's own permit types, fees and workflows. Each role practises the tasks it does in real work.

Administrators

Set up permit types, forms, fees, workflows, checklists, templates, roles and portal text. Practise copying a type, testing a record and publishing it. See the guide to set up a permit type.

Permit technicians, reviewers and planners

Work queues, intake, plan review comments, consolidated letters, hearings, decisions and conditions. Practise moving a record one step and telling the applicant the next step.

Inspectors and code officers

Work the phone checklist in the field, add photos, comments, violations and a signature, and sync the result. Practise offline work and reinspection follow-up. See the field inspection guide.

Finance and department heads

Fees, invoices, counter payments, refunds, daily totals, dashboards and reports. Practise issuing a receipt and running a report the town runs itself.

Residents and contractors

Create an account, apply, upload plans, pay, request inspections and track status. See the guide to create an account and the guide to apply for a permit.

After go-live

Recorded videos, written guides with town examples and online help stay with the town. Guides are updated when a screen or button changes, and each guide carries a date.

Support is by phone, email and support portal, with response times by severity stated in the town agreement. Escalation goes from the support desk to the project lead and then to the company owner. Permit decisions stay with town staff.

Ask a question

How to ask a question or request a demo

Use the request form for a demo, a question or a pilot. Tell the team which permit types, inspections or portal tasks you want to see first.

  1. Add your name, town and email

Open the request a demo page and complete the form. Add your town, your role and the topics you want to see.

  2. Describe one real task

Name a permit type, an inspection type or a portal task your team does each week. The demo uses that task.

  3. Send the form once

Press Send request one time. You will see a confirmation on the page. Keep the confirmation with your notes.

  4. Prepare for the reply

Bring a list of your current permit types, fee schedule and the departments that review them. The team will show how those types are set up in PermitDesk.
